Critical Evaluation: The film opened to both critical and commercial success; it was one of the highest grossing films of 1986. It was one of the first films where a character spoke directly to the audience. Brad Laidman, a film critic (as quoted on IMDb) said, “This is John Hughes’ best teen film, and it’s a call to arms to everyone in the world who doesn’t want to follow society’s lame-ass rules at the expense of living a cool life.” The message is absolutely clear: life is too short; play now.
Viewer’s Annotation: When you’re Ferris Bueller, every day counts. You have to live it up when you can.

Genre: Comedy
Reason for Item’s Inclusion: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of the best movies directed by THE director of teenage angst: John Hughes. The movie is incredibly funny.
