Plot Summary: Peter LaFleur owns Average Joe’s, a small gym that can barely keep its doors open. Rival gym owner White Goodman owns the state-of-the-art Globo-Gym across the street. When LaFleur defaults on the mortgage, Goodman wants the property in order to build a parking structure for his gym. LaFleur needs $50,000 to keep the gym. He, along with his employees and a few gym members, decide to enter a high-stakes dodge ball tournament. Goodman enters a team of his own to make sure the “Average Joe’s” don’t win.

Critical Evaluation: The film was a commercial success, but received mixed reviews from critics. It was nominated for an ESPY Award, several MTV Movie Awards, a Teen Choice Award, and (unfortunately) a Razzie.

It is an underdog story with a twist. It also single-handedly made the children’s game of dodge ball cool to play again.

Viewer’s Annotation: Sometimes being bigger and stronger doesn’t always win out.
